Sabrina was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia
at the age of five years old in March 1998.
She completed treatment in June 2000. Unfortunately in October 2000, Sabrina developed worsening headaches and when a spinal tap was done, she was found to have leukemic cells in her spinal fluid.
This meant that she had to start treatment all over again. A leukemic infiltrate also affected the optic nerve and rendered her blind in her left eye. Along with the chemotherapy, she underwent radiation to her head and spine.
Again in August 2002 more leukemic cells were discovered in the spinal fluid and a new treatment protocol was started. She has about 1 1/2 years of treatment left to complete the new protocol.
